India has been one of the most dynamic markets in the field of C-segment sedans. The Honda City and the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz have been the segment leaders of late. All despite the success and the stardom of these two popular cars, one cannot just take away the credit from the likes of Volkswagen Vento, Skoda rapid and the Hyundai Verna.
The Hyundai Verna, in particular, has been getting immense appreciation and popularity, especially after the addition of the fluidic body language design. The attractiveness from the older generation to the current generation has been utmost sublime. If you still like the way the Verna is designed with the right kind of curves at the right places, you will almost fall in love the way the upcoming generation will be designed.
Not that the 2017 Hyundai Verna is out already, but it has been spied and revealed, giving us a good idea of what this sedan is likely to be like. So let us delve a little deeper and find us what all we can expect from this newest generation of the Hyundai Verna.
The design
The newest generation of the Hyundai Verna will be a great example of an exemplary sedan. Forget the current generation of Verna, the upcoming generation has the design to thrill. It gets an urban front profile with a large hexagonal grille and sweptback headlamps with projector lights. The present curviness is done away with and is given a more sophisticated design. The roofline is shallow and lowers down at the boot, giving it a very coupe-ish design. The wraparound taillights cluster splits at the tailgate.
If we get into minute details, this new version is about 70 mm longer and 29 mm wider than the present generation. The car is driven on large 17-inch alloy wheels.
What lies within
The new Hyundai Verna 2017 has received a good amount of updates in the interiors as well. The new version is much more driver-centric than before and gets a 5-inch or a 7-inch LCD display. The connectivity on this infotainment system is superior to the present breed of sedans. It gets integration to both Apple Car Play as well as Android Auto, whereas the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz only gets Car Play. Honda City gets neither.
The front centre dashboard looks geometrically clean and perfectly shaped as far as the AC vents and other button bits are concerned. The AC vents get horizontal slats now.
The Powerplant
The upcoming Hyundai Verna gets a revised version of the Gamma petrol engine. The 1.6-litre Direct Injection, a four-cylinder motor now makes a maximum power of 132 bhp and the highest torque of 61 Nm. This torque figure has been increased by 4.6 per cent due to the revision of the engine power band. The acceleration figure has also increased greatly over the previous generation, which means that the revised engine will be putting in more power deliverance on the road.
The safety features
The Hyundai Verna will be getting all of the safety features that are present in the current generation of the Verna. In addition, the new generation will be getting Autonomous Emergency braking, which will further boost the safety precautions. The forward-facing radar will be able to detect any vehicle coming from the front and will warn the driver in case of any probable collision. However, the addition of this sensor radar-based technology is still not confirmed for the India-spec version of the new Verna.
Verdict
We now have the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz and the Honda City ruling the segment and even the likes of the fluidic-designed Verna are far from gaining majority of the market shares. But looking at the way the new generation of the Verna is designed, we can be very sure that the previous bests are in for a serious form of competition as it is much more powerful that both of the competitors and offers some premium features that the other two still lack.
That said, the advent of this new version of Hyundai Verna is still some time away from now. Till then we might already see some other features added to the present breed of cars to make it more competitive. All we can do is wait till the new Verna gets underway and starts to win hearts with its charm.
